Announcing our new Program Coordinator

The voting period has ended and the NERALLT board is pleased to announce our new Program Coordinator:


DR. THERESA SCHENKER (Yale University)

Dr. Theresa Schenker is the Language Program Director and Senior Lector of German at Yale University. She completed her PhD in German Studies at Michigan State University. Her research focuses on computer-mediated communication, especially the effects of telecollaboration on language skills and intercultural competence. She has also done research on the impact of short-term study abroad on language and culture learning, language learning with mobile devices and social networks, and technology-enhanced language instruction. Dr. Schenker has published in national and international journals and has presented her research at numerous conferences. She recently won the German Embassy Teacher of Excellence Award for her innovative classroom practices and her incorporation of technology at all language levels. At Yale, Dr. Schenker teaches German at all levels, oversees the graduate student teaching training, directs the German language program, and leads workshops on technology-enhanced teaching to the community of language instructors.

Past Involvement with NERALLT:

 Dr. Schenker presented at the 2014 and 2015 NERALLT conferences and is planning on submitting a proposal for the 2016 conference. In 2014, her presentation was entitled Ten free tech tools for speaking practice and cultural exploration, and in 2015, Dr. Schenker presented on Using Ipads for Study Abroad.
